horizon, 2025.

weave, embroider

jute embroidered with hand-spun wool and cotton thread.

Changes take time to process, and time she had for this piece demanded it all from her: sixteen yards of handwoven fabric embroidered with an array of stitches, yarn spun from raw fibers, the horizon itself cut and then lovingly resewn together (in a new way!). The small scale of it allows different perceptions of the piece depending if you are close or far from it.

The embroidery relies on her tradition of flat cross-stitches, alongside three- dimensional french knots and punch needle. Its installation is a dialogue, listening to the cloth as it settles into space, exploring its own weight and desires. Above all, it isan act of respect for it honors what the material has to say.
