BIO

Luísa Mantelli is a Brazilian textile artist based in New York City since 2023. She earned her MFA in Textiles from Parsons School of Design in 2025, following earlier studies in architecture and urban planning. Her work has been featured in student and independent exhibitions across New York and Brazil.

Mantelli’s practice explores the relationships between humanity and the natural world through material investigations in crochet, embroidery, weaving, felt, knitting, and natural dye processes. Drawing on the rural landscapes of southern Brazil, she creates textiles that balance translucency and opacity, lightness and heaviness. By repurposing raw fibers and applying time-intensive handwork, her pieces invite viewers to reconsider how environments shape people's perceptions and how their actions, in turn, inscribe new topographies on the spaces they inhabit.
